1961

Ever since Remy Defreyne and his wife Josée took over “Patisserie d’Alsace”, at the Pagodenlaan in Laken, 55 years ago, bakery J&M Defreyne  is known for its quality and originality.

1972

Their son Jos Defreyne took over the bakery and made it the flourishing business known today.

1983

1983

Since Jos’s son Mark, despite his young age, wanted to participate in the bakery, Jos decided that the bakery needed to be enlarged.
Bakery “Van Hove” at the Wandstraat in Laken was for sale. Jos and Mark bought it and turned it into a succes.

1987

The shop was renewed so there would be more space to enlarge their gamma bread and pastries.

2001

2001

At the 4th of January Flower shop Mertens at the Sint Annalaan in Strombeek, was for sale. Another oppurtunity to enlarge and to improve.
Jos didn’t hesitate, and with support of his son Mark, his wife Laure and sister An, who all worked for several years in the bakery, he bought the former flower shop.
After several formalities, a brand new bakery was built.

Up until now, at bakery J&M Defreyne everything is made using traditional crafts and skills and with the best materials.
